Although I've heard nothing but great things about all the eyebrow kits and palettes that are one-by-one flooding all beauty stores, I can't seem to walk away from my day-to-day eyebrow products. These products have been my holy grail for the past 2 years. They're affordable and easy to find, so I've decided to share my secret.
Step 1: I always start off by brushing my eyebrow hairs in an upward motion with a spoolie ($1) to assure smooth sailing. Facial moisturizers tend to stick to your brows making them dry the way you left them. The wooden spoolie pictured came with a 30 piece makeup brush set I received back in the day. Trust me when I say you do not need a fancy spoolie to do this and I'm positive you can find one for a buck!
Step 2: I gently line the area BENEATH where I am going to line the bottom of my brows with my Nyx Wonder Pencil ($5) to highlight my brows and their arch.
Step 3: I take my E.L.F Small Angled Brush ($3) and gently tap it against my MAC Eyeshadow in Carbon ($16) literally 3 times. DO NOT drag your angled brush against your eyeshadow surface or else you will achieve unnatural results. I recently dyed my hair much lighter than my usual dark brown, so I have to give extra light taps to my shadow. If you have brown hair, I recommend a brown shaded shadow.
Step 4: I start out lining the middle of my BOTTOM FRONT HALF of my brow, which is the midpoint between the very start of my brow and my arch. Gently drag your angled brush from the mid-brow to the arch, and then the arch to the tail. Reapply your shadow if needed. Take the remainder of shadow left on your brush and shade a line from the start of your brow to the mid-point where you started. Remember that the bottom of your brow should be the most precise and defined versus the top.
Step 5: I reapply my shadow to my brush and gently repeat step 3 to the TOP of my brows, this time more gently. Really focus on defining your arch's top curve into the tail. I take the leftover shadow and line the start of my brow to the mid point. Try not to reapply shadow to the brush more than once when working with the top half of your brow. The tail ends should be significantly darker than the start of your brows to result in an ombre-effect.
Step 6: Repeat steps to other brow. It helps by doing one brow at a time. If needed, repeat step 1 with your spoolie to blend any harsh lines.
Step 7: The best part! For my finishing touch, I use Great Lash Clear Mascara by Maybelline ($4) [brings me back to the 90's] as my eyebrow gel. A lot of people misjudge eyebrow gel by thinking this means slobbing it on and shaping it. This is absolutely WRONG. A little goes a long way with this stuff, I use it daily and probably go through a bottle every 6 months. Use your clear mascara wand the exact opposite that you'd use your eyelash mascara wand: the least amount of gel you get on your brush, the smoother the results. Apply the wand to your brows like you did with the spoolie in step one. Lightly "comb" your hairs to shape instead of "brush", and voila!
